My layout is on a 4' x 8' plywood with 1" x 2" support frame. As the work
progresses I'll install buildings, vehicles, grass, trees, bushes and people.

STEAM ENGINE PHOTOS
This is the Union Pacific "Big Boy" #4014. It's the largest steam
engine ever built at 604 tons. It was designed prior to WWII to pull a 3,600 ton
train over mountain passes by itself. It's a 4-8-8-4 configuration, which means
it has 4 small wheels in front, 8 large driver wheels followed by another set of
8 more large driver wheels with 4 more small wheels under the cab. It's an
articulated engine, meaning the two sets of 8 driver wheels can swivel so the
long engine can go around the tight mountain turns. This is a model built by MTH
and it has sound and synchronized smoke, which you can see and hear in the
videos below.
This is the Union Pacific Mikado Light Mountain Engine #2495. It has a 2-8-2
configuration. This is also a model built by MTH and it has sound and
synchronized smoke which you can see and hear in the videos.
This is the "Challenger" steam engine. It's a 4-6-6-4 configuration. This model is the Rio
Grande #3804. It's a model built by Athearn. The second picture has the 3804
next to the Union Pacific "Big Boy". An impressive mass of steel and power.
